Fernandez unveils RD$319.0M bridge town awaited 20 years

BAITOA, Dominican Republic.- President Leonel Fernandez on Tuesday cut the ribbon for the bridge over the North Yaque River which links the town of Baitoa with the municipality Sabana Iglesia, a structure built at a cost of RD$319 million, which residents and adjacent communities had demanded for more than 20 years.

The Public Works Ministry 350 meter long bridge features pedestrian walks to benefit residents in the communities La Zanja, El Flaire, El Corral, La Lima, El Callejón, La Presa, Los Sánchez, La Lomuya, Boca de los Ríos, La Galeta and La Joya.

Fernandez, whose late father Jose Antonio Fernandez hailed from Baitoa, recently inaugurated the town’s first hospital, built at a cost of RD$82.0 million, to provide service to more than 10,000 area residents.
