Salami sales plunged as merchants demand names

Santo Domingo.- Salami sales have plunged in the capital and merchants fear the worst.

Street vendors who make a living from selling fried food yesterday joined the growing demand by consumers, and wholesalers and grocery stores Consumer Protection Agency (Pro Customer) name names in the scandal over fecal coliform in that product, "to not sell it or eat it."

Elcaribe.com.do reports that several fried sausage vendors and wholesalers said sales of the lesser known salami brands was almost nil.

The major processors however affirm that demand hasn’t fallen, but consumption of eggs and cheese has replaced that of salami.
