Two towns want their new hospitals opened

Santiago.- Two government built hospitals in the towns of Hato del Yaque and Baitoa have yet to open despite their inaugurals by president Leonel Fernandez nearly two months ago.

The towns’ residents asked the Public Health Ministry to open the two centers because the nearest medical facility is as far as 20 kilometers in Santiago.

Quoted by diariolibre.com, Public Health Ministry spokesman Jose Checo said the hospitals are closed because they’re still in the process of recruiting the medical and auxiliary personnel who’ll work in them.

Both the hospital at Baitoa and at Hato del Yaque feature emergency, doctors’ offices and administrative areas, built at a cost of RD$165 million for the two.
