Buckling to pressure, Fernandez “requests” used garment sales resume

Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez on Friday acknowledged the importance of the country used garments and footwear business, and “asked” to reinstate their sale, via a Customs Agency and Public Health Ministry compromise.

"Between Public Health and the Customs Agency the issue could be reconsidered and mechanisms can still be reestablished of such as how to clean the clothes, how to make hygienic because we know there’s a segment of informal trade which lives and depends on it."

Fernandez said the government’s position is not affect people who consume these products, but protect them, for which he suggests a balance.
