President Medina inspects military parade

Santo Domingo.-President Danilo Medina headed yesterday’s traditional military parade markingthe anniversary of the Restoration of the Republic every 16thAugust.

Medina arrived at Santo Domingo’sMalecón boulevard at 5:28 p.m. accompanied by first lady Candy Montilla andfollowed a few minutes later by vice president Margarita Cedeño de Fernández.

The president and VP receivedmilitary honors before the parade started.

Medina and Cedeño were alsoaccompanied by armed forces minister Sigfrido Pared Pérez, national policechief Major General José Armando Polanco Gómez, and other high rankingofficials.

City Mayor Roberto Salcedo was alsopresent, together with national ethics commission president Marino VinicioCastillo and deputy Pelegrín Castillo.

The parade by representatives of allbranches of the armed forces also included air and maritime maneuvers watchedby the president, who is also commander in chief of the armed forces and thenational police.

Thousands of people turned out towatch the event, which ended at 6:30 p.m.
