Tropical Storm Gordon “not a threat”

Santo Domingo.- The nationalmeteorological office (Onamet) informs that although it is monitoringTropical Storm Gordon, it does not present a threat to the country.

The system, which was located 1,035kmseast of Bermuda yesterday, is the eighth storm in the 2012 hurricane season.

It has maximum sustained winds of 85kphand is moving northeast at a speed of 26kph.

Forecasters are also monitoring aweak tropical wave and a system over the country, which will cause downpoursand thunderstorms and isolated wind gusts this evening and tonight, over thenortheast, southeast and southwest regions.

According to the weather report,tomorrow and Sunday will see continued storms, easing on Monday.

Saturday skies will be partly cloudy,with occasional scattered showers and thunderstorms in the northeast,southeast, southwest, central cordillera and border region.

The tropical storm that caused theworst damage in the month of August was hurricane David, which hit the countryon 31st August 1979, with sustained winds of 249kph.
