Downpours continue; 25,845 evacuated, 5,059 homes damaged

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported Monday noon that 25,845 people had to be evacuated, with 5,059 homes damaged from Tropical Storm Isaac’s downpours.

It said Pedernales, Barahona, Santo Domingo, Independencia National District, Monte Plata, San Juan, Bahoruco, San Cristóbal,Peravia, Duarte, San José de Ocoa and Azua provinces are still under flash flood alert.

The COE added 2,225 people are in designated shelters, as downpours continue over some southwestern provinces.
