Over 22,000 volunteers clean up the beaches

Santo Domingo.– The Annual International Coastal Cleanup is under way today in the Dominican Republic, one of the 127 countries involved in the global initiative.

Each year, thousands of volunteers from around the world participate, clearing tons of trash from coastlines, rivers and lakes, recording every piece of trash collected.

According to Vida Azul chief Oscar Oviedo, the coastal cleanup includes 157 sites, surpassing last year’s 132 localities. In the Dominican Republic, the effort has the backing of the Ministry of Environment and Fundacion Vida Azul.
