Countdown for the President’s meeting with the IMF begins

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina will meet at 5pm today with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission which has been in the country for one week, to hash out a pact yet to be specified.

Attending the meeting with IMF mission chief Przemek Gajdeczka will be the government’s economic area officials including Economy minister Temistocles Montas and Finance Mminister Simon Lisardo.

The IMF delegation has met with various sectors, officials and the Central Bank officers, and were received yesterday by Economic and Social Council (CES) president monsignor Agripino Nunez.

On Saturday the IMF officials met with labor union representatives, to adderss rising unemployment and the informal jobs.

The union leaders told the IMF technicians that they "haven’t felt" the economic growth and fear thata "big tax packet” looms.

On Friday the IMF mission met with National Busniess Council (Conep) president Manuel Diez and other officers, and with Dominican Banks Association leaders.
