Deputies approve tougher penalties for minors

Santo Domingo.- The Chamber of Deputies approved the bill which amends seven articles of the Code of Rights for Minors, and will increase the penalties.

The legislation increases the maximum penalties from 3 to 10 years in prison for minors between 13 and 15 years of age and a maximum of 5 to 15 years in prison for offenders aged between 16 and 18 years.

The piece written by Teodoro Reyes (PLD-La Romana) also increases from 10 to 30 days to investigate children accused of committing a crime, and stipulates the test on bones to determine the age of the person who committed a crime.
