Moringa madness spreads to Dominican supermarkets

Santo Domingo.- The national demand for the medicinal plant moringa has boomed and sells hygienically packaged in supermarkets, more than two months after the craze was first evidenced with street vendors.

Known to Dominican countryfolk as “libertad,” the tea from its leaves gained popularity after studies revealed its effect against various diseases.

Elcaribe.com.do reports that in the major supermarket chain La Sirena, a 26 gram packet of moringa costs RD$75, enough to concoct several home remedies.

The packets have instructions on how to prepare the leaves and its properties, in addition to an expiration date.
