Top filmmakers, bat and shotgun in hand, chase bootleggers
Santiago -. Two of Dominican Republic’s top filmmakers decided to take the law into their own hands, with a bat and a shotgun, started chasing vendors of bootleg DVDs who sell their films illegally, managing to grab several and holding them until police arrived.
Alfonso Rodriguez and Archi Lopez agreed to act after learning that pirates sell Rodriguez’s production "Ugly by day, cute by night " at some busy street corners in Santiago and came to the city with other filmmakers and police.
Rodriguez railed against the bootleggers, noting that the film has been in theaters just three weeks and would be released in Puerto Rico early December.
The filmmakers’ attitude met with rebuke from the Office of the District Attorney and the Police, which warned that they face arrest for their action.
