Bill would legalize the generals’ questioned perks

Santo Domingo.- If approved as written in the draft to amend its statutory law, the perks which have become old customs in the Armed Forces will become legal.

Although the current benefits of the senior officers have no legal base, they would become so with the proposed amendment to Law 873, which controls the Dominican military.

Article 158 of the bill, pending approval in Congress, validates what various sectors question- that the perks for retired generals and admirals are arbitrary- because they don’t figure in any military regulation.

The Article stipulates that the retiree’s situation of honor makes them worthy of enjoying benefits such as having "security escorts because of the degree and the position occupied during active service."
