Another major bust links police, military agents to drugs

SANTO DOMINGO. – The National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) busted a drug ring that shipped cocaine abroad, especially Europe and Canada, helped by a group of officers and enlistees assigned the Punta Cana, Puerto Plata and Las Americas airports, with several agents fired and will be prosecuted.

The drug case is the latest in a year in which major confiscations of narcotics involve members of Dominican Republic’s military or police

It said a 14 month investigation led to Miguel Nicasio Manuel Quezada, aka Cristian, arrested October 22 in La Vega, and Miguel Herrera Tapia and / or Ramon Capella Morillo detained in Canada, from where he was immediately deported.

Investigators began tracking the ring after the confiscation of various drug shipments to England, Spain and Canada.

DNCD President Rolando Rosado said "for his link to this criminal network," the latest detainee was Police Major Jose Antonio Polanco Rodríguez, who was the agency’s Assistant Supervisor at Puerto Plata’s airport.
