Justice Ministry resumes probe into one of the country’s wiliest politicos

Santo Domingo.- The Attorney General’s Office on Tuesday resumed the investigation into Senator Amable Aristy, for alleged irregularities during the 8-year tenure as General Secretary of the Dominican Municipal League.

Among the irregularities blamed on the current lawmaker for eastern La Altagracia province figure the alleged purchase of a helicopter with taxpayers’ money, nepotism and the use of LMD funds for his failed presidential campaign with the now pro-government PRSC party.

Aristy, ousted from the PRSC for supporting opposition PRD party candidate Hipolito Mejia, has met with stiff opposition for his return to the once powerful political organization.

Speaking to reporters today, Justice minister Francisco Dominguez said the probe will span to December 2009, with audits conducted by the Accounts Chamber on the several tenures of Artisy, considered one of the country’s wiliest politicos.
