U.S. agents detain 2 Dominicans arrived at San Juan’s airport
Puerto Rico – On November 21, Customs and Border Protection Officers at the Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport arrested a passenger with an outstanding arrest warrant from the US District Court of Puerto Rico.
While processing arriving passengers on a Jet Blue flight from the Dominican Republic, CBP Officers found that Ms. Sabrina Richardson de Orta, a citizen of the Dominican Republic, had an outstanding arrest warrant for theft of government property – Internal Revenue Service. CBP Officers confirmed that the arrest warrant was valid, conducted the arrest and turned her over to federal agents for processing.
Furthermore, on November 22, a passenger arriving at the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport on a Jet Blue flight from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, was selected for secondary examination. Mr. Randy Medina-Olivero, a legal permanent resident with Dominican Republic citizenship, claimed ownership of one suitcase and a backpack. Examination of the backpack revealed a bulge with 5 packages sewn to a back panel inside the bag.
The packages were probed revealing a white powdery substance which field tested positive for cocaine. A total of 2.28 kilograms of cocaine were seized.
These apprehensions were the direct result of CBP’s use of name queries during inspections, CBP officers’ attention to detail during interviews and inspections and commitment to work with other law enforcement agencies to protect our borders.
