La Romana’s “rat hole” prison headed for cultural remake

La Romana. – From a “rat hole” were inmates yelled out from behind iron bars offering sexual favors to cruise ship tourists, La Romana’s regional prison will now boast a Cultural Village, providing residents with another setting which entire families can enjoy

Culture minister Jose Antonio Rodriguez to received from local Army commander Victor A. Mercedes the keys to the facility, with which the Culture Ministry will convert the old building that housed the Santa Rosa de Lima prison.

The conversion of the former correctional facility is also expected to consolidate La Romana’s fame as a icon tourism destination.
