Patrol guns down murder suspect taunted by Police chief

Santo Domingo.- Just two days after the National Police chief taunted a murder suspect by suggesting that he not surrender because they preferred to go after him, Jeancarlos de Leon (Cacon) died early on Friday in an alleged shootout with a police patrol in the town of Villa Mella, north of the capital.

De Leon was on the loose after his alleged connection in the murder of Police lieutenant colonel Pedro Cruz de la Cruz.

Police chief Jose A. Polanco on Wednesday surprised the country when he said he won’t be “taken for a fool” by the main suspect in the officer’s murder, and suggested he not turn himself in because the police will “go after him” instead.

"I say this with full responsibility, I would like for him not to surrender, so that we can go get him, he walks around defying society, has sent messages saying you have to catch me fighting, then he shouldn’t turn himself in, we’ll go get him," Polanco said on Wednesday.
