U.S. agents nab cocaine smuggler who flew out of Santiago’s airport

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico. – A man concealing 97 cocaine filled pellets inside a pair of socks was arrested by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers Saturday arriving at the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport from the Dominican Republic.

Esaul Gonzalez-Ocasio, 25, a United States citizen, sought admission into the US after arriving on board an American Airlines flight from Santiago, Dominican Republic.

Mr. Gonzalez-Ocasio was selected for secondary examination, and upon inspection of his luggage, CBP officers found pellet shaped objects inside a pair of men’s socks.

A total of 97 pellets were found filled with an unknown substance weighing approximately 1.2 kg (2.5 pounds). The material was field tested and resulted positive for cocaine. CBP officers seized the drug. The estimated street value of the contraband is approximately $28,000.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents took custody of Mr.Gonzalez-Ocasio for further investigation.
