Dominican Justice Ministry fires a 4th prosecutor in 4 weeks

Santo Domingo.- The Justice Ministry’s Disciplinary Board on Thursday fired La Vega prosecutor Leiny Yolanda Rosario Solis for misconduct in her functions.

Rosario becomes the fourth prosecutor to be fired in as many weeks, after Ivelisse Casado, from Santo Domingo province, and Soraine Vargas and Pedro Adael García, from San Pedro de Macoris, both of whom were incarcerated.

Rosario is banned from working within the Justice Ministry and will be ineligible for any other government post during the next five years.

The indictment says the ex official prevented Police agents from arresting Edwin La Vega Fernando Morillo Galán and from searching a vehicle he was driving, on suspicion of carrying an illegal weapon and drug trafficking.

Rosario staged another incident at the Police Internal Affairs in Santo Domingo in May 11 last year, when she went to denounce a colonel, a captain, and a first lieutenant, to prevent Morillo’s arrest on a warrant. Morillo faces various charges in La Vega, including the alleged murder of an agent.

Allegedly Morillo and Rosario have a romantic relationship.

Rosario says she’s honest

"I am an honest person and have spent most of my time studying and preparing myself. I made three different masters and courses in different parts of the world," she said, denying any links to drugs.
