Ex President’s close collaborator loses court round in embezzlement case

Santo Domingo.- Supreme Court justice Esther Agelan on Tuesday revoked part of the case file on corruption against San Juan senator Felix Bautista, one of former president Leonel Fernandez’s closest collaborators.

The judge ruled for the challenge filed by the lawyers grouped in the CONA, who demanded reopening the probe into Bautista’s alleged embezzlement.

CONA director Yuniol Ramirez said, as head of the State Works Engineers Supervisory Office (OISDE), Bautista broke the purchasing and contracting law.

The case broke after Anticorruption Dept. (DPCA) director Hotoniel Bonilla dropped the charges against the powerful Senator, on a complaint filed by the Dominican Anticorruption Alliance (ADOCCO), and the CONA afterwards.
