Court ruling stokes opposition party’s never-ending crisis

Santo Domingo.- The Superior Electoral Court on Friday ruled against a request by the opposition PRD party’s faction of former president Hipolito Mejia, to void his recent expulsion from the organization.

The Court also ruled against Mejia’s request to annul the membership of the PRD’s National Discipline Council, whose resolution expelled the former chief executive and senior member Andres Bautista, and a two-year suspension of Orlando Jorge and Geanilda Vasquez.

The ruling also legalizes PRD president Miguel Vargas’ call to convene the party’s National Executive Committee on Sunday, but paves the way for a protracted standoff.
