U.S. Ambassador regrets opposition party crisis, suggests dialogue

Santo Domingo.- U.S. ambassador Raul Yzaguirre regrets the crisis rocking Dominican Republic’s major opposition party (PRD) and suggests a dialogue of its leaders as the best solution.

“Strong and united parties are needed in a democracy. I’m confident that the Dominican people and the PRD will solve that problem," the diplomat said, noting that that the PRD is necessary to balance the democratic system.

"We have to be good winners and good losers and have the sense to know that democracy and the country are more important than personal issues,” Yzaguirre said during the American Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon.
