Son of Civil Defense director arrested in US$2.5M fraud case

Santo Domingo. – Agents assigned to the National District Office of the Prosecutor arrested a son of retired general, and Civil Defense director Luis Luna Paulino, charged in a fraud of more than US$2.5 million.

Luis Joel Luna Yorro is being questioned by High Tech Crimes Dept. investigators headed by German Vazquez, in connection to an international ring suspected of the fraud through a bank card,.

The ring of at least eight people including Venezuelans allegedly forged the cards to withdraw large amounts of cash, including the US$2.5 million in just one transaction.

Luis Luna Paulino’s woes began in 2011, when investigative journalist Nuria Piera revealed that several of his sons figured in Civil Defense’s payroll including Luis Joel Luna, as his father’s assistant, in addition to being the Dominican Air Force, where Luna Paulino had held the post of Chief of Staff.
