Traffic cops impound bikes, including six from a La Romana club

Santo Domingo.- Metropolitan Transit Authority (Amet) agents impounded 162 motorcycles for driving through the tunnels, on overpasses and for not having a helmet during the weekend, including six big bikes from a La Romana club they had to chase.

Amet spokesman Jacobo Mateo said the bikes were seized on 27 de Febrero, Kennedy, Las Americas and other avenues of greater Santo Domingo.

He said owners of the big motorcycles belong to a club from La Romana, who went into the Las Americas tunnel to west and continued over the 27 de Febrero overpass.

Moquete said the agents chased the club members who ignored an order to pull over, but managed to stop five at the Maximo Gomez, where they were arrested, while five others fled upon reaching the Kennedy, with a sixth arrested afterwards.

He said Amet director Juan Geronimo Brown ordered traffic cops to impound bikes without a registration, to be impounded at the Customs Agency.
