Beach land fraud scandal spreads to biggest resort region

Santo Domingo.- Many of the titleholders of Bahia de las Aguilas lands also obtained tracts in Bavaro, Punta Cana (west) through the same fraudulent procedure used by the head of Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD) I the mid 1990s, ruling party senator Wilton Guerrero revealed yesterday, and called on society to prevent the government’s attempted "mess" from materializing.

Among the titleholders the lawmaker cited Francisco Solano de los Santos, former right hand man of Puerto Rican kingpin Jose D. Figueroa Agosto, Pedro Marcelino, Victor Antonio Pérez, Rafael Montilla, Milton Valerio Payano and Octavio de la Cruz.

Guerrero said Solano has 30 hectares (Parcel 67B) in Pedernales and another 50 hectares in Bavaro; Marcelino figures with 75 hectares in Bahia de las Aguilas and another 75 in Bavaro; Perez has 5 parcels in Bahia de las Aguilas and Montilla has 4 in Pedernales and 4 in Bavaro, of 30 hectares each.
