Judges for country’s biggest land fraud case to be tapped next week

Santo Domingo.- Supreme Court president Mariano German on Thursday said the Judicial Council will appoint several judges next week, including those who’ll hear the State’s request to void the titles for Bahia de las Aguilas, considered the country’s biggest ever land fraud case.

German also said he disagrees with appointing special judges for the case, because in his view, would violate the principle of equality.

He said there’re many conflicting interests in the case, for which all citizens must be given the same opportunity. "Those interests must be treated equally by the court, to avoid violating faireness, therefore no special judges can be appointed."

The Supreme Court chief justice made the statements during a ceremony where 11 Judicial Branch employees were recognized for meritorious service.
