U.S. Embassy: National District Prosecutor is Woman of Courage

Santo Domingo.- U.S. ambassador Raul Yzaguirre and his wife, Audrey yesterday hosted a reception at their residence to mark International Women’s Day, and lauded the work by National District prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso, for the rule of law and to strengthen democracy and the best interests of the Dominican people.

Yzaguirre handed a plaque to Reynoso declaring her "Woman of Courage 2013" for her contributions. "Here in the Dominican Republic, every day, every month and every year, we see more and more women occupy positions of power, forging a history of this country for the good."

He noted that the State Department bestows the "International Women of Courage Award" annually to women doing great efforts in their communities for the common good.

Upon receiving the award Reynoso thanked the U.S. Embassy for its support to her effort and said she receives it “with humility and commitment to God to give me strength and determination every day to fully carry out my duties and with a sense of justice.”

First lady Candida Montilla de Medina, Apostolic Nuncio Monsignor Joseph Wesolowski, among others, attended the ceremony.
