Medina to unveil sweeping anticrime plan today

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina will unveil the "National Public Security Plan" to the country at 5pm in the National Palace today, after he announced it in his February 27speech before Congress.

The announcement comes while violent crimes are on the rise in the country, for which the government seeks to counter their effects.

Interior and Police minister Jose Ramon Fadul last week said once disclosed, a media campaign will seek to raise awareness of the security plan’s importance.

The official added that he hopes the project will fulfill the country’s expectation, and that it proves its effectiveness in practice.

"It’s a comprehensive initiative, we want it to become government policy, and it’s designed to simultaneously tackle crime and its root causes," Medina said before Congress.
