Tsunami drill; increasing cloudiness, scattered showers

Santo Domingo.- To mark the start of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere, the National Meteorology Office (Onamet) will form part of the agencies that will stage a drill where an earthquake north of Venezuela generates a major tsunami along Dominican Republic’s entire southern coast.

The drill Caribbean Wave Lantex aims to evaluate the public safety agencies’ response to a cataclysm, with timely communication and relevant alerts from focal points.

This drill will start at 9am with the participation of the various agencies.

Onamet forecasts increasing cloudiness with scattered showers, mostly over the Northeast, Cibao Valley, Central Mountains and the north coast during the next 24 to 48 hours.
