Amet to regulate motorbike taxis at a cost of RD$367 million
Santo Domingo.- The Metropolitan Transport Authority(AMET) will regulate the motorcycle taxi drivers known as ‘motoconchistas’ in a plancosting RD$367 million. The transportpolice warns that any motorbike taxis travelling illegally once the process iscomplete will face a RD$1,500 fine.
The Amet director, General Juan Brown said that as of April1st they would have five points in strategic locations in Greater Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Santiago and in La Altagracia province, where themotoconchistas could acquire their registration plates and reflective jacketsfree of charge.
He said that of the 1.6 million motoconchistasnationwide, 700,000 do not have registration plates. Of this total, 500,000 areorganized.
