FBI made illegal interview in senator Menendez case, Dominican official says

Santo Domingo.- The Government’s Ethics office director on Sunday affirmed that two FBI agents interrogated in the La Romana (east) police precinct, without a court order or local official presence, the maids of the villa of prominent eye doctor Solomon Melgen in the resort Casa de Campo.

Marino Vinicio Castillo said the domestic workers filed a complaint to Dominican authorities alleging "illegal arrest and interrogation by intimidating and threatening questions, regarding the alleged involvement of U.S. senator Robert Menendez and Melgen, regarding allegations of prostitution stated in a video."

"A police general said that this operation required the presence of the prosecutor from La Romana and the response received from another police general was that they had the consent of Justice minister Francisco Dominguez, and the presence of any prosecutor wasn’t necessary," the official said in his TV program La Respuesta, Channel 15.
