Puerto Rican kingpin’s paramour to stay in jail

Santo Domingo.- The San Cristobal Court of Appeals on Monday ruled against money laundering convict Sobeida Felix’s request for release on parole, aimed at overturning a lower court’s refusal.

Felix was sentenced to five years in prison for laundering money for an international drug trafficking ring headed by her paramour, Puerto Rican kingpin Jose Figueroa Agosto, being held in a federal facility in New York.

Judges Maria Garabito, Luis Sención and Ilvin Feliz read the sentence without Felix’s presence.

Felix’s lawyer Felix Portes said he’ll request an investigation, claiming that in both cases the ruling was filtered to some media before the hearing.
