Medina, Customs chief meet as Barrick Gold row angsts

SantoDomingo. – President Danilo Medina and Customs director Fernando Fernandez aremeeting behind closed doors in the National Palace since 9am Wednesday, only hoursafter Barrick Gold Corp’s top executives and government officials held amarathon session aimed at agreeing on a revised contract

Although thepurpose behind the gathering has yet to surface, the talk is expected to centeron the Canadian miner’s latest shipment of 12 doré bars worth US$22 million retainedby Customs since May 1.

Medina’s meeting with Fernandezhas headed the investigations into the shipments, has ratcheted the angst among Dominicans.
