Dominican-born Mayor coasts to easy win in Passaic, NJ

Passaic, NJ. – Dominican Republic-born mayor Alex Blanco claimed victory in Monday’s municipal elections to head the city four more years.

Blanco, a physician, easily defeated his compatriot and lawyer Jose Sandoval, who has unsuccessfully challenged the Passaic’s mayor several times.

As the count still continues, the incumbent has racked up 4,377 votes to Sandoval’s 1,880 in the polls which include City Council seats.

Blanco is the first Dominican to reach such a post in the Garden State, where his job rating earned him the support of the Hispanic community, a majority in Passaic.
