Senate taps Balaguer-era official as Ombudsman

Santo Domingo. – The Senate Wednesday night chose former National District prosecutor Zoila Martinez for the newly-created post of Ombudsman, enacted in the Constitution of 2010, with 15 votes of the 22 lawmakers present.

Martinez’s tenure as Prosecutor was mostly positive, despite having held it during the last term of the disastrous last term of the late former president Joaquin Balaguer (1994-1996)

The Senate’s selection was from the short list submitted by Chamber of Deputies, which also included Iraima Altagracia Capriles and Felix Antonio Cruz Jiminián.
