Catholic Church to mediate in opposition party crisis

Santo Domingo.– Former President Hipolito Mejia said Friday that mediation has been requested to the Catholic Church for the continuation of the talks between him and the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) president Miguel Vargas.

"We are waiting for a meeting of Miguel Vargas with the Catholic Church, I think it will be today (yesterday) or tomorrow. We ask the Catholic Church to participate as an orchestrator of these things, as a mediator," Mejia said.

Mejia confirmed he has already met with the church and announced that in the coming days he will send a letter setting out his views on the PRD "timing."
