Major opposition party leaders meet as 2-year dispute wears on

Santo Domingo.- The president of Dominican Republic’s major opposition party (PRD), Miguel Vargas, and former president Hipolito Mejia met Tuesday night to discuss to how to end the political organization’s internal conflict this week.

PRD senior leader Jose Joaquin Puello made the announcement after a meeting of the political leaders at his Naco sector residence, but both Vargas and Mejia declined reporters’ questions.

"The agreement that has been reached is that the echelons of the two groups will meet this week to try to organize a protocol which would then be studied by both," Puello told reporters, but didn’t specify.

Its Mejia’s and Vargas’ second meeting to seek an end to the two-year old dispute, after the May 3 gathering at the Jose Miguel Soto Jimenez, in Pedro Brand, north of the capital.
