Public Health: 200,000 flu vaccines arrive in 15 days; 8 deaths thus far

Santo Domingo.- Public Health minister Freddy Hidalgo on Thursday announced that 200,000 doses of H1N1 flu vaccine will arrive in the country within 15 days to deal with the virus, and confirmed the death of eight people from the disease thus far.

He said the authorities work round-the-clock to control and monitor suspected H1N1 cases and other diseases that breed in hot climates and humidity, including leptospirosis, dengue, malaria and others.

The official also revealed a RD$1.0 billion remodeling of around 40 hospitals and throughout the country, in addition to the RD$2.0 billion recently announced to build 50 clinics and labs. "This is an unprecedented investment; one billion pesos to revamp and reorganize our hospitals…, is actually doing what was never done for the health of the Dominican people."
