Catholic majority would snub gay U.S. ambassador: DT poll

Santo Domingo.- A majority of Dominican Today readers say an openly gay ambassador from the United States will not have a positive reception from the country’s citizens, keeping in mind that an overwhelming majority is Catholic.

When asked “How will Dominicans react to a gay activist as U.S. Ambassador? ,” 66.15% of the readers responded “Not well as majority is Catholic,” with 723 votes, followed by “Probably not give a hoot,” with 250 votes, or 22.87% of those who took part in the unscientific poll.

The response “Very tolerant as usual” drew only 86 votes, or 7.87%, followed by the 34 votes (3.11%) for the response, “It will depend on his discretion ,” in reference to Washington’s ambassador-nominee, James Brewster.
