Former President’s threat prompts hasty meeting

Santo Domingo.- The security chiefs of former president Hipolito Mejia and of the opposition PRD party president Miguel Vargas are meeting Friday morning with the chief of the National Police, just days after the former threatened that his supporters would “take to the streets” to protest an Electoral Court ruling against 69 of his collaborators.

The meeting comes after the government announced it will order members of the security details of both leaders to stay at their barracks, on the day of the meeting of the PRD’s top echelon (CEN), to avert violent incidents among its rank and file.

In the meeting with Police chief Manuel Castro are general (r) Rafael Guerrero Peralta and active general Carlos Luciano Diaz Morfa, taking place Police headquarters.
