Police chief says crime is down more than 40%

Santo Domingo.- National Police chief Manuel Castro on Sunday said crime is down more than 40% after the Safety Plan began and the streets were militarized.

He said it has been determined that social conflicts, passionate confrontations among other personal problems account for more than 60% of the violent crimes, leading to injury, deaths and other violent acts.

He said as part of the strategy to cut crime, on Saturday ordered all Police commanders of the interior and Greater Santo Domingo to form operational and prevention teams in their region, based on deterrence and intelligence.
