Manhattan DA, Dominican Consul warn immigrants of fraud

New York.- Manhattan DA Cyrus R. Vance Jr. and Dominican General Consul Felix A. Martinez joined to warn Dominicans and other immigrants about fraudulent actions during the immigration reform process.

The officials seek to prevent potential applicants from becoming victims of hustlers and scammed by bogus immigration experts when looking to legalize their status.

To assist the applicants, the Dominican Consulate and the Office of the Manhattan DA’s Immigrant Affairs Dept. coordinate an orientation program, headed by Assistant DA Mayerling Rivera and Consulate PR Hildalyn Colon.

Martinez said the workshop is one of several events to inform and guide Dominicans, once the House of Representatives approves the immigration reform.

Vance’s office conducts programs to prevent fraud since the victims are often immigrants, who are duped by scammers posing as immigration lawyers and other types of experts.

The officials held the presentation at the Dominican Consulate in Manhattan, at 1501 Broadway, between 43rd 44th St.
