Dominican, DEA agents seize more cocaine at National Park

Santo Domingo.- The National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) on Sunday seized 316 bricks of cocaine inside a cave at the National Park of the East, from the same ring which was busted with 353 packages just one week ago.

DNCD president Julio Cesar Souffront headed the air, land and sea operation near the town Boca de Yuma, La Altagracia province (east), with helicopters, boats and around 300 agents, with the cooperation of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Souffront said the 316 bricks in 13 bales were brought to the country on a speedboat from South America, by a drug trafficking network that includes Colombians and/or Venezuelans and Dominicans.

He said the Army helped stake out an entire area of the Park near Boca de Yuma during one week, combing the thick forest and rugged terrain after network’s members.

The official said the cocaine was taken from Saona Island to the shore at Boca de Yuma on two fishing boats, operated by Eddy de los Santos and Isidro Aristy, who are fugitives.
