Watch out for land grab at Santiago, Sports Minister warns

Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Sports on Monday said the sale of as much as 1.5 million square meters of State-owned land at La Barranquita, Santiago should be investigated, after claims of titles and the fencing of some areas.

Jaime David Fernandez Mirabal said a Sport Ministry investigation found the land grab at the sports complex on lands at La Barranquita.

He said the results of the probe were sent Monday morning to Justice minister Francisco Dominguez, who in turn promised an investigation to recover the land.

The sports complex was built to stage the 15th Central American and Caribbean Games at Santiago in 1986 and athletes from at least eight track and field events have continued training there ever since.
