Top general: Military can deal with threats to national security

Santo Domingo.- Armed Forces minister Sigfrido Pared said Tuesday that Dominican Republic’s geographical location forces its military to marshal all resources to deal with the various threats to national security, drug and gun trafficking, human trafficking and natural disasters among them.

He said Dominican Republic has a high level of risk within the region’s countries, noting that it’s it also has a maritime border with Colombia, the world’s top cocaine producer.

"Therefore, the Armed Forces have to direct all its resources to the fight against drug trafficking and a series of threats that occur across our borders," Pared said.
