Interpol arrests Italian fugitive who spent big in La Romana

Santo Domingo.- Dominican police assigned to Interpol on Tuesday announced the arrest of Italian fugitive Giovanni Costa, 63, sentenced to 16 years in prison for money laundering, armed robbery and bank fraud.

It said Costa was apprehended on Duarte St. in La Romana, on an international arrest warrant issued in 2013 by the Palermo, Italy Appellate Court.

The Police said it seized a Chevrolet SUV which Costa was driving.

"The detainee, who was said to acquire expensive properties in the country, will be repatriated to Italy in the next few hours, once the formalities are complete," the police said.
