National emergency system 9-1-1 ready to launch

Santo Domingo.- Presidency chief of staff Gustavo Montalvo met Tuesday with the mayors of Greater Santo Domingo to apprise them of the launch of the national emergency assistance and safety system 9-1-1.

The official said the system will take effect in December and is part of president Danilo Medina’s priorities. “Its purpose is to reduce the levels of insecurity and violence, through timely and effective assistance in emergency situations.”

In a statement by the Presidency, Montalvo said the mayors were invited to join the initiative actively, ” to restore peace and security in the streets of their communities.”

“The mayors lauded this Government initiative and expressed their willingness to support and cooperate in everything needed to execute and provide continuity to the national emergency assistance and safety system 9-1-1, considering it as an urgent need."
