Medina concerned about identity of Dominicans of Haitian descent

Santo Domingo.– Representatives from 14 agencies, funds and programs of the United Nations in the country met Friday with President Danilo Medina, who would have shown great sensitivity and concern for the situation of children with no identity whose mothers are foreigners, mostly of Haitian descent.

The claim was made after the meeting by Lorenzo Jimenez, UN Resident Coordinator. According to him, Medina, who is very respectful to the division of the branches of government, told them that solving the situation is not in his hands.

Jimenez revealed that the UN agencies suggested the head of state to meet with those affected to reassure and show his sensitivity, a request that was well received by Medina although no date was set for that meeting.
