Colombian brothers sent to maximum security jail

Santo Domingo.- The Colombian brothers Huber and Angel Buitrago were escorted Tuesday from a cell in the Ciudad Nueva courthouse and escorted to maximum security prison at Najayo (south) under heavy guard.

Prison agents arrived at the courthouse at 7am and took the Buitragos, despite a ruling by National District judge José A. Vargas to release them without bond in the money laundering case, rejecting the prosecution’s request for pretrial detention.

The Colombians were transferred to Najayo after prosecutors reportedly filed unspecified charges in a separate case, although forgery has been cited by Justice minister Francisco Dominguez.
